{"id":1509,"date":"2017-03-05T22:16:39","date_gmt":"2017-03-05T22:16:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/courses.shroutdocs.org\/hist300a-spring2017\/?p=1509"},"modified":"2017-03-05T22:16:39","modified_gmt":"2017-03-05T22:16:39","slug":"isaacs-hamartia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/courses.shroutdocs.org\/hist300a-spring2017\/?p=1509","title":{"rendered":"Isaac&#8217;s Hamartia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The entirety of Larson&#8217;s <em>Isaac&#8217;s Storm<\/em> is centralized on an idea that this storm belonged to Isaac Cline and no other individual in the devastated town of Galveston, leaving the reader to question how this storm belonged to a single individual and not the town as a whole.\u00a0 Throughout the book Larson not only gives the perspective of Cline, but that of other individuals within the town and their own experiences with the tragic event that took the lives of their neighbors and loved ones.\u00a0 To make this event accountable to a single individual comes across as artistic leeway to retell the event from the perspective of a single individual.\u00a0 However, to make this claim Larson gives an analysis to the character of Cline during the course of his work to show that Cline in fact takes the storm as his own.\u00a0 Cline&#8217;s own recounting of events during the storm are at constant odds with those of his own brother Joseph, a contradictory force that undermines the &#8220;well meaning&#8221;
