Beginning in the fifteenth century, and continuing to [TBD?] people around the Atlantic basin looked oceanward, considering the possibilities of trans-Atlantic exploration, migration, settlement, warfare and economies. This course surveys the development of Atlantic history as a discipline alongside historical ideas about Atlantic ocean space.
