Essentially, this topic would look at the slave trade and subsequent growth of the cotton industry as a major catalyst to the recognition of the United States as a legitimate player on the world stage.<\/li>\n
  2. The Anti-Native American Empire. This topic would deal with how the early growth of the republic and then subsequent explosion of southern cotton necessitated a refocusing of Native American policy in the eyes of the American government. Was it a shift in policy or something ingrained in the American psyche?<\/li>\n
